- Neel Doff is the author of several autobiographical based books, her most famous one being 'Days of Hunger and Distress'. A full bibliography can be found in "Neel Doff 1858-1942 - A Biography" by Évelyne Wilwerth and translated by Renée Linkhorn. Neel Doff climbed her way out from underneath a crushing poverty and elevated herself to become a socialite in the highest artistic and political circles of late 19th early 20th century Belgium. In her stately home in Antwerp, while battling a bad cold, at age 52, she grabbed paper and poured her sorrow down on them until she ran out of tales to tell. Just for the moment.
